Search Allen County Court Records

Allen County court records hold the filings, hearings, and rulings from the Circuit and Superior Courts that serve Fort Wayne. People run an Allen County court records search to follow a lawsuit, check a criminal case, confirm a divorce, or read an estate file. Indiana keeps most of these records open to the public. You can search Allen County court records online through the statewide case portal, or ask the county clerk for certified copies. Civil, criminal, family, probate, and small claims files all move through the same office, and many reach back decades. Knowing the right portal and the right office saves time on any record request.

How to Search Allen County Court Records

The main tool is Indiana MyCase, a free state portal at public.courts.in.gov/mycase. It draws from the Odyssey case-management system that Allen Circuit Court and Allen Superior Court both use. The Allen County Clerk links to it under "Find My Court Case." Anyone can search public, non-confidential cases without an account, though party and attorney sign-in unlocks more documents.

Have your details ready before you start. A case number is the fastest route. With only a name, line up the correct spelling and a middle name or birth year, since common names return long lists. MyCase is not the official certified record, so older or sealed cases may be missing.

Follow these steps to look up a case.

  1. Open MyCase and choose the Case, Name, or Attorney tab.
  2. Set the Court dropdown to the Allen County courts so the search stays local.
  3. Enter the narrowest detail you have, starting with the case number.
  4. Use the advanced options to set status and a file-date range when needed.
  5. Open a case to read the chronological case summary, hearings, and documents.

Allen County Court Records Search Fields

MyCase offers three search modes, and each uses its own fields. Case mode takes one identifier. Name mode takes a last name or business name, with optional first name, middle name, or date of birth. Attorney mode takes a bar number or attorney name. No search returns more than 1,000 results, so filters matter on broad queries.

Allen Circuit and Superior Courts both run on Odyssey, the system behind MyCase. The image below shows the state's list of courts on that system.

Because Allen County uses Odyssey, its full public docket flows into MyCase rather than a separate county database.

Types of Allen County Court Records

The Clerk files and keeps records for every main case type in the trial courts. Civil, criminal, family relations, probate, and small claims all run through the office. Allen Superior Court Civil Division handles civil and probate work, the Criminal Division handles felonies and misdemeanors, and the Family Relations Division handles divorce and custody.

The record types people request most are below.

  • Civil cases, such as contracts, collections, liens, garnishments, and judgments.
  • Criminal cases, including charging documents, pleas, sentences, and probation orders.
  • Family relations, such as divorce, custody, support, and protective orders.
  • Probate, including wills, estates, guardianships, and final settlements.
  • Small claims, capped at $10,000 under the local rule.
  • Traffic and infractions, with citations, fines, and court dates.

Juvenile, CHINS, and most mental-health records are confidential and do not appear in the public search. For traffic matters, the Allen County traffic court records page goes deeper.

What Allen County Court Records Show

A case file on MyCase opens with the header data, then the chronological case summary, the official ordered list of every event in the case. Parties, attorneys, hearings, financials, and posted documents follow. Birth dates do not display, and confidential identifiers are removed. The fields below appear on a typical case.

FieldWhat It Shows
Case NumberThe uniform Indiana number, often starting with county code 02.
Court / DivisionAllen Circuit Court or an Allen Superior Court division.
Filing DateThe date the case opened.
PartiesPlaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent, or the State.
Chronological Case SummaryThe dated record of filings, hearings, and orders.
FinancialsCosts, fines, fees, payments, and any balance.
DispositionThe outcome of each charge or claim.

Punctuation in the case number is forgiving, since hyphens and leading zeros can be left off. A citation number has no single format and a cross-reference number may be an older or agency number.

Documents are a different story. Some filings post as downloadable PDFs, but many do not appear online at all. A party or an attorney of record signed into the Courts Portal can see more than the public view. For anything not posted, the Clerk holds the paper or microfilmed copy. Financial balances on a case can also lag, so the figure on screen may not match what is actually owed. When the amount matters, call the Clerk for the official balance rather than trusting the online total.

Public Access Framework for Allen County Court Records

Indiana law favors open access. The Access to Public Records Act, Indiana Code § 5-14-3, sets the policy and places the burden to withhold on the agency. For court files, the Indiana Supreme Court's Access to Court Records Rule 4 says records are open unless a rule excludes them. Those rules were updated effective February 2, 2026.

Anyone may search MyCase or request copies. No reason or ID is needed to inspect a public record, though the Clerk needs your contact details to process and bill a copy request. The Clerk maintains the judgment docket too, shown in the image below.

Note: Court records are public by default in Indiana, but sealed, expunged, and confidential files stay out of the online search by law.

Records That Are Sealed or Confidential in Allen County

Some files are closed to protect people. Juvenile court records fall under IC 31-39 and are mostly confidential. Adoption files are sealed under IC 31-19-19. A granted expungement under IC 35-38-9 drops off public MyCase, though a pending or denied petition may still appear. Protection-order cases are excluded by federal law, so the protected person's name does not show online.

If you need a record that is excluded, you can ask the court for access. Access to Court Records Rule 9 sets the petition process, and the court weighs the request against the reason the record was closed. The Allen County arrest records page covers sealing and expungement of criminal files in more depth.

Older Records and In-Person Requests

Not everything is online. The Clerk's earliest records date to 1824, and older or non-automated files may sit in the Records Management Division in Room 202. For certified copies, missing documents, or an official balance, use the Central Services Division in Room 201. Pay by check or money order made out to Clerk of Allen Circuit Court, and include a stamped return envelope for mailed requests.
