Official Allen County Inmate Search
The Sheriff runs the official tool at allencountysheriff.org. It shows the people currently booked into the Allen County Jail. A live table lists each inmate with a photo, name, and booking date, and the data comes straight from the Sheriff's own feed. The search is free, works in any browser, and needs no account. It covers current custody only, so a released person drops off the list.
The screenshot below shows the official inmate search page.

Here is how to use the roster step by step.
- Open the Sheriff inmate search page.
- Type a first name, a last name, or pick a booking date.
- Run the search to filter the live table.
- Click Inmate Details on the right row to open a full profile.
- Read the charges, cause numbers, and bond on the detail page.
Inmate Search Fields and Result Columns
The roster keeps its inputs simple. You can search on three fields and reset them at any time. The result table then sorts and filters in place. The fields and columns are below.
| Field or Column | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| First Name | Text field | Filter the roster by first name. |
| Last Name | Text field | Filter the roster by last name. |
| Booking Date | Date field | Limit to a booking date. |
| Image | Result column | Mugshot shown in the table. |
| First / Last Name | Result column | Sortable name columns. |
| Booking Date | Result column | Shown in month/day/year form. |
| Details | Result link | Opens the inmate detail page. |
The roster is backed by an official Sheriff data feed. The image below shows that JSON feed, which lists each current inmate.

Each feed entry carries an inmate number, first and last name, booking date, and the image used in the table.
What an Allen County Inmate Profile Shows
Open a profile and you get a detailed snapshot. A sampled detail page reviewed in May 2026 listed a front-facing booking photo, the person's name, and a full set of physical descriptors. A charges section followed. The table below lists the fields a profile shows.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Mugshot | Front-facing booking photo. |
| Name and Suffix | Full name with a suffix field. |
| Age, Gender, Race | Basic demographics. |
| Height and Weight | Physical descriptors at booking. |
| Hair and Eye Color | Coded descriptors. |
| Booking Date | The date of intake. |
| Inmate Number | The jail ID for the person. |
| Charges | One block per charge with statute, cause, and bond. |
The sampled profile did not show a housing pod, a court date, an arresting agency, or a release date. For those, you check the court case or call the jail.
Charges, Cause Numbers, and Bond
The charges block is the heart of the profile. Each charge lists its own statute and a plain description, such as a domestic battery or a burglary code. Next to it sits the cause number, which is the court case tied to that charge. A sampled cause number followed the Indiana format, like 02D06-2605-F4-68. Bond fields round it out.
Bond type tells you how release works. A sampled profile showed a bond type of pretrial services with a set dollar amount. Other charges may carry a cash bond or a surety bond. The amount is what must be posted for release on that charge.
To read the full case behind a cause number, search Allen County court records on MyCase. A charge here is an accusation, not a conviction, so the court docket is where you find the outcome.
Allen County Jail Address and Contact
The county jail sits in downtown Fort Wayne, just south of the courthouse on Calhoun Street. The Sheriff's administrative office is in the courthouse itself. Use the contacts below to reach the jail or ask a custody question.

Booking and Release Basics
Booking starts custody. A new inmate is processed, photographed, and added to the roster with charges and bond. Who stays in the jail depends on the case. Pretrial detainees can be held on any class of charge. Sentenced felons go to state prison, while people sentenced on misdemeanors serve in the jail or in a court-overseen program.
Release ends it. When a person can no longer be lawfully held, they are free to leave. Their possessions and any commissary balance are returned. The county has noted it is working on a public bus route to pick up people released from the future jail. Until then, released people rely on family, rideshare, or walking.
For confirming a release, the released inmates page lays out every check, from the roster to state and federal locators.
Current Jail Capacity
The current Allen County Jail has a bed count of 732 and must stay at or under 622 people to avoid being deemed overcrowded. The county is building a new facility with a 1,300-bed design target, planned with more medical and mental-health space, sensory-friendly areas, and female-only pods.
Full capacity numbers, census reports, and trends sit on the Allen County jail population page.
Inmate Mail Rules
Mail follows strict rules at the Allen County Jail. Letters dropped off in person are not delivered, so everything comes by mail. Incoming mail is checked for contraband but not censored. All mail is copied and delivered, and the original goes into the inmate's property. Legal mail is handled one piece at a time by the Mail Officer. A letter without a complete, readable return address is sent back.
What you can and cannot send is spelled out. Handwritten letters in black or blue ink, typed letters, and plain or legal-pad paper are accepted. Many items are not.
- No photographs, greeting cards, or postcards.
- No stamps, envelopes, or stickers.
- No magazines, books, or internet pages, except printouts with Indiana Codes or case citations.
- No glitter, perfume, parcels, or commercial mail.
Indigent inmates get materials and postage for two letters per week at no charge. Mail goes to Allen County Jail, 417 S. Calhoun St., Fort Wayne, Indiana 46802.

Video Visitation
Visits are by video, not in person. Every visitor must register at GettingOut.com or through the Getting Out app, and visits are started by the inmate. Eligible inmates get one free 25-minute visit per week, and extra paid internet visits are unlimited and 25 minutes long. All visits are monitored and recorded. Giving a false name or ID suspends visit privileges for a year.
The table below shows the daily service windows the jail publishes for mail, phone, and visit setup.
| Service | Window | Days |
|---|---|---|
| Mail delivery | 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. | Monday to Saturday |
| Telephone access | 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. | Daily, general population |
| Free video visit | One 25-minute visit | Per week, eligible inmates |

Visitors must have the Getting Out app installed and cannot have been incarcerated within the prior 90 days. Registration runs through the GettingOut service, shown below.

Phone, Commissary, and Money Deposits
Money in custody works through an inmate account. Cash inside a cellblock is contraband. Funds in the account can go toward fines or bond, and the jail says money can only be released outside the jail to the inmate's attorney. The jail rules accept U.S. Postal money orders for deposit and do not take personal checks.
There are easier digital paths too. A separate Sheriff payments page lists a lobby kiosk, JailATM.com for commissary deposits, and InmateSales.com for tablet and phone funding. Commissary lets inmates buy hygiene items, writing materials, and food.
The image below shows the inmate-account payments page.

The Sheriff also keeps a separate payments page that lists each funding method. The image below shows that page.

Meals are served three times a day, including weekends and holidays, and are never withheld as discipline.
When to Use IDOC, BOP, or VINELink
The county roster covers the local jail only. For other custody, you switch tools. Indiana SAVIN and the state Department of Correction track sentenced state prisoners. The federal Bureau of Prisons locator covers federal inmates. VINELink offers custody-status notifications where Indiana data is available.
The released inmates page covers each of these locators with their search fields. For an active warrant tied to a booking, see the warrant search page.
